Fact sheet - Things you need to know as a member of the TPS

  • Information about the scheme arrangements can be found on the Teachers’ Pensions (TP) website
  • You may be able to transfer in pension credit from another scheme within one year of taking up your appointment.
  • You can nominate someone to receive a death grant and survivor benefits in the event of your death (you should always keep this up to date).
  • Check your payslips to ensure that pension scheme contributions are being deducted.
  • You can boost your benefits by;-
    • buying additional annual pension to increase your standard benefits (see the TP website for more details); or
    • making additional voluntary contributions (AVC). Check the Prudential website for more details about the Teachers’ AVC scheme www.pru.co.uk/teachers
  • Check your Annual Benefit Statement (you can access this on the TP website) and report any inaccuracies immediately to your employer.
  • Teachers with more than one employer should check their service history, found by accessing the secure area on the TP website, against their P60 information.
  • When making retirement plans consider your options and talk to your teachers’ association representative or an independent financial adviser.
  • If you are returning to work after retirement you need to inform Teachers’ Pensions immediately to avoid any overpayment of benefits.
