If I become ill, can I retire?
- Yes, provided the DCSF accept that you fulfil the scheme’s eligibility criteria.
Will my service be increased?
- That will depend upon your ability to undertake other gainful employment.
- For more information see the Ill-health retirement benefits leaflet.
Can I return to teaching?
- Yes, but if you do your pension will cease.
Can I start another job?
- That will depend upon your illness and the level of ill-health retirement that is awarded.
How do I apply?
- Your employer should provide you with occupational health support throughout your illness, which should include considering the options for different working patterns or discussing whether a more suitable job is available.
- If you decide to apply, you should complete the Ill-health application form and then, together with your employer and their occupational health advisors, complete the Medical Information form. You and your employer are responsible for providing medical evidence.
- Both forms should be sent to TP to process.
