Living abroad

Receiving your pension

If you move abroad during your retirement, this won’t impact the sterling amount of your pension. However, the amount you receive in the local currency may change based on currency rates. Please note there is a £1 charge to receive your pension outside of the UK.

Your payment is sent in sterling and then a foreign exchange rate is used to convert the pension amount into the local currency prior to the payment reaching your account.

Overseas declaration

During your retirement we need to check in with you from time to time to make sure your details are still up to date. If you’re a member living abroad, every five years* you’ll be asked to complete our overseas declaration via My Pension Online (MPO). It’s important to stay connected to your pension by regularly logging in to MPO and making sure your details are up to date. *Annually if you’re 90 and over.
