Actively Teaching - Trish 47

Trish, 47, is a full time teacher in Solihull, at a school catering for children aged from 2 to 19 years old with multiple severe to profound learning difficulties. Having experienced some health issues, Trish really values understanding her options for retirement.

Trish started teaching in 1990 and has worked in several roles at two different schools having started out as a class teacher, working up to Head of Department. Her current role is a highly demanding job due to the complex needs of the young people she works with. Knowing what her options are for the future is very important to Trish as she has experienced some health issues, which understandably will have an impact on her future decisions.

She has contributed to her pension continuously throughout her career, even during the three months she was on maternity leave, and values it very much. She has always paid attention to her annual statement and knows her employment details are correct, however she still feels confused about her options.

“I’m one of those people who doesn’t really understand the information surrounding my pension or more specifically the changes that have impacted on it of late.”

The whole process of going online has reignited my enthusiasm for looking into my financial future.

“Going online is all new to me really so when I registered on the Teachers’ Pension Scheme website I did actually find it surprisingly interesting browsing the different areas and checking out how my pension is doing.” she said.

“I really want to understand what my options are, at what age I can retire and things like that. Until now, I’ve only received information through the post. I think moving online with all of this information, providing calculators and tools for different circumstances, is certainly a huge step in the right direction.”
