Death and Family benefits

We’ve received some cases recently with multiple applications for death grants and also claims for surviving partner benefits, in which the partner has to provide evidence to prove their relationship to the member.

As you can appreciate, this can be distressing for loved ones at an already very difficult time.

If you become aware of a change in a member’s circumstances (for example, they may change their next of kin details because they have an unmarried partner), please remind them that they may wish to log in to My Pension Online (MPO). Here they can make a death grant nomination and/or update their personal details/partner information.

In the event of their death, it may help to ease the administration of benefits for their beneficiaries and cause less distress in the process.
