Part-time earnings

We’ve seen increased queries about how ‘days excluded’ appear on member prints for part-time staff. These represent unpaid days and are auto-calculated using the full-time salary and actual earnings submitted monthly.

If a part-time member has no earnings in a period (e.g. £0 in March), all days in that month should be marked as excluded.

For MDC submissions involving concurrent service, use the concurrent calculator to determine the correct full-time salary and days excluded. Enter £1 in the part-time earnings field to indicate concurrent service.

For MCR submissions, use days excluded for part-time members in non-pensionable periods due to sick or family leave. Refer to MCR guidance (PDF, 2 MB) (This link opens in a new window) for details.

Example Calculation:
Full-time salary: £36,500
June earnings: £2,000
Reckonable days: (2000 × 365) ÷ 36,500 = 20
Days excluded: 30 – 20 = 10
