Get started with your 2026 retirement plans

If you’re planning to retire this summer, it’s important to let us know as soon as possible.

We ask that you submit your retirement application six months in advance of your proposed retirement date. This gives us and your employer time to make sure everything is in order and process your application.

Transitional Protection

If you’re impacted by Transitional Protection, you’ll need to decide about your benefits in the remedy period. This can take time, especially if you seek help from an Independent Financial Advisor. This is why we ask that you apply within plenty of time. If you’re unsure about Transitional Protection, please visit our dedicated web pages (This link opens in a new window). You can also view your Benefit Statement RSS which will give you an idea of the choice you’ll be asked to make.

Incorrect information

Before applying for retirement please log in to My Pension Online (MPO) (This link opens in a new window) and check that your service and salary information is up to date. We use this information to calculate your pension, so any incorrect or missing service could delay or cause an incorrect payment.

For help with missing service please look at our FAQS (This link opens in a new window).

How to apply

The easiest way to apply for Age or Early Retirement is through MPO. Simply log in and complete your application form. This will then go through to your employer for them to complete Part B.

For Phased Retirement please use the paper form (PDF, 485 KB) (This link opens in a new window).
