Schools and colleges must perform a number of checks when appointing staff to work at their school.

These checks include the following:

  • For teachers who will be engaging in ‘regulated activity’, schools and colleges must obtain a certificate for an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check with barred list information; 
  • Schools and colleges must also check whether any candidate to be employed as a teacher is not subject to a prohibition order issued by the Secretary of State, using the Employer Access Online Service; and
  • Schools and colleges can also undertake a TP Online check. This service is used to check whether a teacher is barred from teaching so they can commence work pending the issue of their enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate.  

Access to TP Online is granted by applying for downloading a digital certificate to ensure you can perform checks. To access TP Online please download and complete the TP Online application form.
