Review of the administration of the Teachers’ Pension Scheme

Last month we informed you that we’re working with the Department for Education to look at the general administration of the Scheme and the roles of Teachers’ Pensions and the employer in delivering the Scheme.

This month has seen a series of Focus Groups in Manchester, York and London with representatives from all employer sectors attending.  The groups discussed the overall administration and looked at four draft models of delivery which could be adopted in the future.

The four models looked at who should be responsible for delivering core administrative duties:-

  • New starters
  • Auto Enrolment and Re-enrolment
  • Opt Outs
  • Contributions
  • Flexibilities arrangements
  • Leavers
  • Retirement
  • Ill-health requirements
  • Death in service
  • General communications
  • EOYC

These were all split into various tasks and the each model provided options as to who should deliver the task.

A series of 1-1 sessions with employers is also planned along with a further stage of Focus Groups once the initial feedback has been reviewed.  We will continue to keep you updated on this review in the bulletin.
