Annual Service Returns (ASR) now overdue

Despite the deadline of 6 July 2016 having now passed, there is still a substantial number of employers who have not returned their Annual Return. To put it into perspective, 1,027 of 7,486 employers have not provided a return which means we don’t have up-to-date service history for over 204,588 members.

We really would encourage you to submit your return to us. If this information is not provided it will have an impact on what can be provided to members.

Legislation requires Teachers’ Pensions to:

  • Provide members with accurate information regarding their pension benefits;
  • Inform individuals of their estimated pension benefits;
  • Enable effective pension planning; and
  • Ensure service records are accurate to allow for the correct calculation of pension benefits in the future.

The information also allows the Scheme to provide affected members with a Pensions Savings Statement for annual allowance self-assessment. Any potential tax liability for these members will not be able to be assessed if service and salary details are not provided.

Employers who fail to meet their responsibilities – as set out under the Teachers’ Pension Scheme Regulations 2014 – may be reported to The Pensions Regulator, who may choose to impose sanctions on the employer. If you need support completing your Annual Return our website (This link opens in a new window) is a great resource.
