Key dates for MDC/ASR/EOYC in 2016/2017

It’s that time of year when it’s important to know the key dates for providing information to us.

This year is very much of a transition year, with some of you still working with Annual Service Submission, others live on Monthly Data Collection and some who over the 2016/17 financial year will experience a bit of both.

We’ve broken the information down so that you can determine that which is a priority for you. We’ve also highlighted dates which are specific to that type of employer you are (in relation to EOYC).

If you’re providing a full Annual Service Return for 2017 and completing an EOYC.
Are you prepared to complete your Annual Service Return (ASR) and End of Year Certificate (EOYC) for 2016/17?
  • ASR returns will be required by no later than 6 July 2017
  • The EOYC process will start on 1 March 2017. Detailed timeline dates can be found below.
Important

The first thing that you’ll need to do is ensure that we have the right contact details for your establishment. It’s therefore important that you complete the ‘declaration and contact details’ form, which you’ll find in the Templates Section of the Employer Portal. Please ensure you complete all individual contact details in full, regardless of whether it’s the same contact.

ASR

By getting your housekeeping in order you can ensure that the SCHEDPRINT we produce for you is as up to date as possible, so your ASR submission runs smoothly.

If you haven’t already done so, please make sure that you’ve:

  • updated all new starter details by completing the TR6 template
  • updated all leavers details by completing the TR8 template
  • checked any outstanding error files, amended them and uploaded the data.

If you need help or guidance on completing the templates you can use the ASR guide (PDF, 439 KB) (This link opens in a new window).

Important information for Multi Academy Trusts (MATs) and Payroll Providers

If you’re a MAT or Payroll Provider, you must record service under each individual LA establishment number and not the lead school. You can apply to be set up on the system as a MAT or Payroll Provider, which will allow you to update the information under one status.

Key dates for 2017
It’s almost time to start thinking about completing your End of Year Certificate (EOYC). To help you through the process we wanted to remind you of the key deadline dates and information, along with details of what you need to do now you’ve on-boarded to Monthly Data Collection (MDC).
Keep us informed

Please ensure you complete all individual contact details in full, regardless of whether it’s the same contact.

Important

We’re aware that during 2016/17 your establishment moved to MDC. As this was not at the start of the financial year, you’ll need to advise Teachers’ Pensions of any periods of service not covered via MDC.

You can complete this backdating process in one of three ways, by providing:

1. a TR28 submission

2. a backdated MDC file; or

3. a part ASR, but only if you produce the information from your own systems as we’ll not be providing a prepared SCHEDPRINT form for your submission.

The submission dates for this backdated information is 6 July 2017. Should you require any support with regards to this process you can find help in the MDC frequently asked questions section.
