Over the last couple of months we’ve had an increase in the number of teachers getting in touch asking what their Teachers’ Pensions Reference number is. Also some have been told that their employer is unable to provide it.

The number can be found via the Employer Portal through the Member Print search. If a member requests their number from you, please can you check the Member Print initially before advising they contact our Call Centre.

Their Teachers’ Pensions Reference number is also known as their Department for Education number, which they get when they qualify as a teacher. For new members starting to teach in Higher or Further Education, they’ll not have been assigned a number on qualification (as this is generated when we receive notification from yourselves they are a new starter via a TR6 or on your MDC return).
