Family benefits for unmarried partners

We’ve recently updated our website to explain the qualifying criteria for the unmarried partner of a member to receive family benefits, in the event of the member’s death. You may remember that back in February a high-court judgement was made that an unmarried partner nomination form is not required in order to qualify, although other criteria such as having co-habited for at least 2 years remain in place.

We have conducted a thorough search of our records to identify any unmarried partners who may now qualify for a dependant’s pension. But there may be some cases we don’t know about if, for example, the partner never applied for a dependant’s pension. We’d appreciate your help by passing this information on to anyone you think may be able to now apply for a dependant’s pension.
