Phased withdrawal and employers leaving the Teachers’ Pensions Scheme

The consultation exercise to amend participation rules to allow for the phased withdrawal of independent schools that might otherwise leave the Teachers’ Pension Scheme for all members, closed on Tuesday 1 June 2021.

We’ll be providing you with further information on the process for taking phased withdrawal in the coming months. We’ll also be looking at providing additional information to members who could be impacted.

We’ve been providing information to both employers and members at establishments who have chosen to leave the Scheme.

For employers considering either phased withdrawal or leaving the scheme we’ve provided a checklist of your responsibilities when carrying out a consultation with staff.

For individual members who we know are leaving the Scheme we’ve provided them with a factsheet of what they should know about the process and what their choices are in relation to their pension. When the response to the recent DfE consultation on phased withdrawal is published we’ll be able to include information for members on phased withdrawal.

We’ve included this information on our website, so you can see exactly what members receive.
