Helping employees reconsider opting out of the Scheme

Throughout August we’ve emailed Scheme members who’ve chosen to opt out of paying into their pension. We understand why some people choose to put their pension saving plans on hold, but it’s also important that members understand the benefits they’re missing out on.

The Teachers' Pension Scheme is one of the key benefits provided to teachers in their role. By remaining opted out of the Teachers’ Pension Scheme, some members may be giving up the chance to save for their retirement in a Scheme that’s secured by the government and uses their service and salary to calculate their pension, rather than investments. It also provides ill-heath cover and in-service death benefits for their family if anything should happen to them while they’re teaching.

You can help encourage your staff who have opted out to re-join the Scheme by sharing our factsheet (This link opens in a new window), which explains the benefits of being part of the Teachers’ Pension Scheme.
