We’ve discovered that some members within the Scheme hold a temporary National Insurance (NI) number, which starts with QQ.

If you have the correct NI number for a member with a temporary NI number, please update this through your MCR submission.

These are the steps to change it:

• Use the member’s Teachers’ Pensions Reference number and their correct NI number in your MCR submission
• This will override the temporary NI number on our system
• The member’s Teachers’ Pensions Reference number can be found via the Member Search function on the Employer Portal
• If you’re unable to find a member, try removing the NI number, as you may find the member holds a temporary NI number on our system
• Please note, if you try to input the member’s correct NI number with their Teachers’ Pensions Reference number, it’ll be rejected. This is because our records still show a temporary NI number and there isn’t a unique identifier to find the record matching the member’s information on our system.
