Regulation changes from 1 April 2025

The Department for Education recently held a consultation on proposed amendments to the Teachers’ Pension Scheme regulations. The results of the consultation have now been finalised and changes to the regulations will come into effect from 1 April 2025.

These changes include:

  1. Amendments to the member contribution rate (please read our separate story (This link opens in a new window) for the full details on this change)

  2. Amends to Fair Deal - Fair Deal is a non-statutory policy which maintains access to public service pension schemes where employees are transferred from the public sector to a private sector employer under Transfer of Undertakings (TUPE) terms. The amendment has been included to reflect the recent change in Treasury policy which extends the current scope to employees of Further Education establishments that are eligible for Teachers’ Pension Scheme membership under the existing regulations. The change will apply retrospectively from 14 November 2024, which is the date that HM Treasury confirmed the final policy.

  3. A range of miscellaneous amendments to ensure that the Teachers’ Pension Scheme regulations operate as intended. You can read more about them in the Outcome document (This link opens in a new window)

You can find all the information on the consultation on the Gov.uk website (This link opens in a new window) as well as the full regulations (This link opens in a new window).
