Update of Monthly Data Collection (MDC) Error Code Guide

We’ve been reviewing the error codes we’re seeing with MDC submissions and have updated our Error Code Guidelines to provide more information and tips on fixes.

Here are the top 5 errors and advice on how they can be fixed.

Error Number

Error Description

How to fix it

02

TP Reference number matches but secondary key (e.g. NI Number, Date of Birth) does not match.

One of the most common MDC errors and most likely to occur during your on boarding phase. This error occurs where the NI number and/or DOB for a member does not match those held by Teachers’ Pensions.

Perform a member search using the members’ TP Reference number to identify which information differs and which is correct within the MDC file.

09

Salary value out of range.

The full-time equivalent salary you have provided is too high. This may be because you are providing decimal values. Please ensure the salary you provide is rounded to full pounds only and does not contain any pence values.

41a

Part-time indicator present, but part time salary and days excluded are blank.

This error occurs where the part-time indicator has been selected, but both the part-time salary field and/or the days excluded field are blank.

Please either amend the part-time indicator to full-time (if the member is full-time) or provide the part-time salary  or days excluded.

NB: You can only provide both part-time salary and days excluded  if the member is in concurrent service.

57b

Part-time salary greater than £1 and days excluded greater than +10.

The part-time salary you’ve provided is excessive in relation to the full-time salary. This has resulted in plus days being generated. The part-time salary you have provided is too high.

Please amend the part-time salary which you have produced. The part-time salary must be the actual part-time earnings and not the annual part-time earnings.

14b

Invalid End Date

The end date you’ve provided does not match the format defined within the specification. The date should be in the format ddmmyy.

Please ensure the date does not contain any full stops or punctuation marks.
