Conditions for accessing benefits in the Teachers’ Pension Scheme

With the introduction of the Career Average arrangement the conditions members need to meet to access their pension benefits, the impact of opting-out or leaving all eligible employment and the resulting payable date for their pension has become increasingly complex.

As we move to the point where more and more transition members are reaching an age when they start to consider retiring, we have provided two guides, one on the conditions to access benefits (PDF, 230 KB) (This link opens in a new window) and the other on the combination of benefits (PDF, 269 KB) (This link opens in a new window) from the different arrangements of the Teachers’ Pension Scheme.

The guide provides examples for common scenarios, but we’ve also produced two tables; one that summarises the conditions and the other that provides a guide to transition members as to what benefits can or have to be taken, depending on their age and the type of retirement they’re taking.
