Passionate about education? Make a difference as an examiner/moderator this summer

Exam boards are in the process of finalising their teams for this summer’s activity and you could be part of their teams of experts involved in delivering results this year.

You can join thousands of other teachers (both experienced and retired) who help students receive recognition for their learning, and also enable them to progress to the next stage of their development.

As an examiner, you’ll receive training and support, working as part of a team throughout the process. And you stand to benefit from the experience as well. Benefits of examining include:

  • Developing your knowledge of the specification.
  • Enabling you to apply your subject knowledge and encouraging you to expand and deepen it.
  • Developing your understanding of the mark schemes used.
  • Improving the ways you support pupils in their development of exam technique.
  • A chance to network with other subject experts.
  • An insight into the latest approaches to how your subject is assessed.

You’ll also earn some extra income for approximately three weeks of work.

For specific information about the required roles and criteria to examine for each examination board, refer directly to JCQ - Examining dedicated webpages (This link opens in a new window) - these can be accessed via the quick links.

Apply today (This link opens in a new window) so you can help students get the results they’re working hard to achieve.

It’s important to note that the role of an examiner, particularly if this is the only role you’re performing, is not likely to be pensionable under the Teachers’ Pension Scheme and will therefore not count towards your pension. This is subject to change depending on your circumstances.
