New Online system for applying for “Individual Protection 2016” and “Fixed Protection 2016” in respect of the Lifetime Allowance (LTA)

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) are currently developing a new online service for scheme members to apply for protection from the LTA tax charge.

To help with this they’d like to talk to some scheme members affected by the reduction in the LTA and are looking to apply for protection after the digital service becomes available in July 2016. If you are such a person, HMRC are interested to find out your needs as a potential user of the new online digital service. HMRC are also interested to speak with you if you have any previous experience of applying to protect your pension savings from the LTA tax charge.

If you’d like to talk with HMRC about your needs as a user of the new online system, or take part in testing the new online system, please contact HMRC at the following email address:

pensions.businessdelivery@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk (This link opens in a new window) putting `Lifetime Allowance - User Testing' in the subject header of the email and by providing the following information:

  • your name
  • email address
  • telephone number
  • residential location
  • preferred method of contact.

HMRC point out that, depending on numbers, they may not be able to contact all of the volunteers they get. HMRC would appreciate details of any interested members.
