Now the public consultation on the government’s proposals to address the discrimination identified by the McCloud judgment has closed, the government is analysing the responses and will publish their response in due course.

After considering all the responses received, their response will include:-

  • How those members affected will be able to choose between Final Salary (legacy) and Career Average (reformed scheme) benefits for the period affected (April 2015 –March 2022)
  • How the Scheme will work from April 2022

We’re currently working on what is required to deliver the changes to the Scheme going forward and how we’ll inform you of those changes.

It’s important to remember that not everyone will be affected by these changes. If you first joined the Scheme on or after 1 April 2012 these changes will not affect you.

As the period of service that is affected is from 1 April 2015 – 31 March 2022, any changes to benefits already in payment for affected members will be backdated. We’re working on plans to address this and will keep you informed of progress.
