Did you know the DfE can support you in your return to the classroom?

The Department for Education are expanding their support offer for former teachers considering a return to the classroom. Alongside maths, physics and modern foreign languages, they now provide support to former teachers wanting to return to teach chemistry and computing.

Their expert return to teaching advisers will help to support you every step of the way. Watch this video (This link opens in a new window) to help understand how an advisor can assist with your return, including:

  • The application process, such as writing a personal statement and preparing for an interview
  • Accessing courses to enhance your subject knowledge
  • Finding teaching vacancies.

You can register for support on the Return to Teaching webpage (This link opens in a new window) where you can also access the latest guidance and advice to aid your return. You can register for exclusive return to teaching events (This link opens in a new window) and find out information on everything you need from curriculum to teaching vacancies to flexible working.

Returning to teaching also means that you can be re-enrolled into the Teachers’ Pension Scheme (as long as your employer is eligible). Discover the benefits (PDF, 53 KB) (This link opens in a new window).
