Get back into teaching

The DfE is now offering support to former teachers considering returning to teach any secondary subject. Their expert return to teaching advisers can support you every step of the way. This video (This link opens in a new window) explains how a return to teaching adviser can assist with your return, including:

  • the application process, such as writing a personal statement and preparing for an interview
  • accessing courses to enhance your subject knowledge
  • finding teaching vacancies

Register for support on the return to teaching (This link opens in a new window)website, where you can also access the latest guidance and advice to aid your return. You can also register for exclusive return to teaching events (This link opens in a new window) and find information on a range of areas, such as curriculum, pensions and flexible working.

Returning to teaching also means that you can be re-enrolled into the Teachers’ Pension Scheme (as long as your employer is eligible). Discover more about the benefits (This link opens in a new window).
