Flexibilities – Getting more from your pension

Are you looking to increase your pension? Our Scheme provides a variety of ways to help you add to your final pot. Depending on the arrangement you’re in, there’ll be different options available to you. We offer:

  • Faster Accrual – You can accrue pension for the year at a higher rate than the standard rate of 1/57 of pensionable earnings.
  • Additional Pension – An election to increase your annual pension. You can pay for it by a one off lump sum or through monthly deductions from your salary. You can choose how much Additional Pension to purchase subject to a maximum, but the amount purchased must be in multiples of £250.

You can also build up an additional pension with Additional Voluntary Contributions (AVCs). The Teachers’ Pension Scheme has AVC arrangements with Prudential. You can find out more here . Your Teachers’ AVC pot is invested in funds. As with any investment, the value can go down as well as up and you could get back less than you put in.

Apply for your flexibilities.

Please note there's a limit to the amount of extra pension you can purchase in the Teachers' Pension Scheme, although the limits are increased from time to time. See the updates section of our website for details on the current maximum amounts.
