Yes, you’ll be given the opportunity to make a choice at retirement as to whether you wish to take final salary, or career average scheme benefits in respect of your service during the remedy period. It cannot be a combination of the two. This is referred to as the Deferred Choice Underpin (DCU). We’ll provide information to enable you to make an informed choice based on what best suits you.

The changes only affect those of you who were both in service on or before 31 March 2012 and have continuous service on or after 1 April 2015. To help you understand if you’re affected then visit our decision tree or log in to your MPO account where it will advise if you’re affected by the changes.

When making your choice between final salary and career average for any service during the remedy period (1 April 2015 -31 March 2023), your pension would only reduce if you choose the lower option.

You may be concerned that you’ve not yet received your RSS which provides you with your choices for your service during the remedy period (1 April 2015 – 31 March 2023). Please be reassured your pension won’t change until you’ve made your choice. The timescales for sending you your choices are available on our website.
