Answer:
No, the role identifier number is mandatory for all service lines within MCR submissions regardless of service type.
-
Answer:
No. The role identifier number for the member must remain with them for the entirety of their contract. The role identifiers must only be changed if the employee signs a new contract of employment. Role identifier numbers must be transferable from and to your systems.
-
Answer:
If the member has two jobs in separate establishments then yes, they can both have the same role identifier.
In the case with two jobs in separate schools, if you use the same role identifier for both then the EST number makes each string unique.
This is because the role identifier is built up of multiple elements to make a unique string of data.
Teachers' Pensions Reference number – NI number – DOB – LA number – EST number – role identifier.

Answer:
You’d supply three lines of data in total, one for contract one, and two for contract two. You’d need to make sure that the role identifier you provided follows the format we’ve set out. Please see the ‘role identifier’ section of the user guide for more information.
-
Answer:
At present, as this is an employer generated number, there’s no process in place to get this information on mass for a new payroll. This would be your responsibility when moving payroll providers.
You can request a member print through the Employer Portal as the role identifier will be added to the service display.
-
Answer:
The role identifier numbers don’t need to be sequential; they just need to be the same each month for each role the member has.
For example:
A member had three initial jobs with role identifier numbers 1/1, 2/1, and 3/1.
The member left job 2/1 then the role identifier numbers 1/1 and 3/1 must remain in place.
Providing the role identifier is the same each month for each member for that role, they can be whatever you choose.
