Pensions Increase and revaluation of Career Average pension benefits

The Pensions Increase to be applied to pensions in payment will be 3% for 2018/19. The increase to pensions will take effect from 9 April 2018.

There are occasions when there’s a ratio imbalance on the monthly breakdown form and the online version of the form gives a “No” result. Many of the responses given advise of either a refund after opt out or maternity pay.

Salary bands changes for contribution rates

As the rate of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by 3% in the year to September 2017, the salary bands for contribution rates for members will increase by 3% with effect from 1 April 2018.

Late payment of contributions

Academies should be aware that if they’re late in paying contributions by over 90 days they’ll be included in our monthly reporting to the Pensions Regulator.

Opt out

We previously advised you that from January 2018 members will only be able to opt out online (unless they have requested otherwise). Members will need a My Pension Online account in order to access the online opt out form.

Monthly Data Collection (MDC) and missing service

The MDC Reminder and Checklist process is almost complete. This will allow Teachers’ Pensions to inform you of any missing MDC files or members each month.

Help in improving member records

Please help us in ensuring that members’ records are set up correctly. Inconsistencies lead to a member not being able to sign up to My Pension Online as their details don’t match.
